Little Chough Class

You may know that we now welcome 3 and 4 year olds in their Pre-Reception Year, as ‘Little Choughs’. Funded (free) places are offered for up to 5 mornings weekly in the Early Years Foundation Stage, based both in the Conservatory and Reception classrooms. So if you have a child born between 1.9.09 and 31.8.10 your child would be eligible for a place from September!  2 open sessions, for children and parents, will be held on Wednesday 5^th June (9.15-11.45am) or Thursday 6^th June (1.30-3pm) with a variety of activities which can be enjoyed for as long or as little as preferred!

Rounders Tournament

On Tuesday our rounders team of Jack T, Ben, Jamie, Kate, Megan, Coby, Aiden, Perran and Lauren played a closely matched game against Sennen School which we won 7-6 and a half.

Our final matches will be played on June 18^th.

Residential Camps

Final bookings and arrangements have now been made for both our Scillies and Hayle camps which are due to leave early next half term.

Lafrowda Day- Saturday 20^th July 2013 : Costume-making has already begun so please ensure your child’s consent letter has been returned if they would like to take part. If you are able to help make simple costumes please contact the school office.

Headlice

There have been reports of sightings in all classes- please ensure that your child’s hair is regularly inspected and treated if necessary (the ‘wet-comb and conditioner’ method is still the recommended method).

St Buryan Entertainers

If anyone is interested in resurrecting the St Buryan Entertainers group who, in the past, have produced village pantomimes and concerts please attend the public meeting on Monday 1^st July at 8pm to be held in the Methodist Church Sunday School.

 E-Safety

All students and parents are invited to an e-safety talk being held at Cape Cornwall School.  The event will run after school from 4pm until approximately 5pm on Thursday 13^th June.  

The speaker will be PC Tracey Fuller and he will focus on safe use of Facebook and other social media sites.

We have taken delivery of 12 brand new iPads which will enable us to enhance our ICT provision as well as providing additional learning opportunities throughout the whole curriculum. Grateful thanks to the Friends of the School who funded 6 devices, one for each of the classes.

Rounders Tournament

Despite the terrible weather on Tuesday our Rounders team of Jacob, Amy, Freya M, Megan, Jamie, Jack T, Perran, Ben and Eleanor made it to Mounts Bay Dome and were rewarded with a ‘Win’ as our opposition didn’t! On top of this we were able to play an unplanned  friendly match which everyone enjoyed.

Attendance

Unfortunately our attendance figure has dropped significantly due to the bad weather and illnesses and we hope to improve this situation so that our percentage levels out.  Family Holidays do require authorization due to the complexity of the school calendar so before a booking is made please obtain a Holiday Form from the school office to obtain the necessary consent.  Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Little Chough Visit

On Wednesday our Little Choughs travelled in the ‘Chough Bus’ to Trengwainton National Trust Gardens where they enjoyed exploring and identifying a range of plants. They saw the vegetable patch and collected ‘treasures’ to investigate closely back at school.

Our rounders team played their first match this week against Alverton School. Despite tough competition our players performed well scoring four and a half rounders to Alverton’s 8. Well done to Perran, Ben, Freya M, Jack T, Jamie, Eleanor, Megan, Helen and Aiden. Our next match will be next Tuesday against Bolitho School. Please come along to support.

To enhance our whole-school topic ‘Ancient Egypt’ Years 3 and 4 visited the Royal Cornwall Museum at Truro this week where they saw and handled many ancient Egyptian artefacts, some of which they have brought back to school in a Museum Collection box, for everyone in school to look at and experience as well.

Cornish Pirates Players visit

We were delighted to welcome several professional Cornish Pirates into school this week.  They worked with our older children playing tag-rugby before hosting a Question and Answer session in the classroom.

From Broadway to Buryan

The Land’s End Youth Choir will be performing many popular songs from the musicals at the Village Hall tomorrow evening at 7pm. The retiring collection will be equally divided between St Buryan Village Hall funds and the choir.

“Musical Summer Spectacular”

A Musical Summer Spectacular performed by our School Choir, members of Land’s End Youth Choir, (including many past pupils) and Pipers Singers will take place here at the school on Wednesday 10 July at 7.30pm.

Fire Safety Education

Years 2, 3 and 4 were visited by a Fire Safety Advisor this week who advised them about the importance of making a Fire Plan for their home and also discussed other fire-related issues.

Science Assembly

Grateful thanks to Miss Rogers and Mr Kellis from Cape Cornwall School who visited an assembly this week and demonstrated how Science can be great fun!

Headlice Alert!!!!

There have been many sightings in all classes this week. Please ensure your child’s hair is checked at least once a week! The Health Authority continue to suggest that ‘wet-combing’ with conditioner after shampooing is the most effective method of control.

We are pleased to welcome Mr de Labat into school for this term. He is on placement from Plymouth University and will mainly be working in classes 5 and 6 as well as organising an after-school guitar club.

This week we have been hosting Clara, from St Gildas School in France, on work experience.

Please contact school if your child is absent from school or likely to arrive late. Our school lunches are cooked to order to keep costs as low as possible so please be advised that a lunch may not always be available for a late order.
