St Buryan Academy Primary School - Newsletter 14 October 2011
Book Week
Well done to everyone who dressed up last week as their favourite book character. There was a fantastic assortment, ranging from a very colourful munchkin to a larger than life Peter Rabbit! We hope to continue to timetable some of the successful reading activities that took place in order to further promote a lifelong enjoyment of books and reading.
Daya
Daya will be spending the last of her 4 days with us next week. She has told us her own story, as a Sikh girl and has taught us about the beliefs, customs and celebrations of the Sikh faith. We would like to share our learning with parents and friends so have arranged a Curry Night for Friday 9th December at 6pm with Daya. There will be no charge for this event; please make a date in your diary and invite your family and friends.
Father Brin’s Beard
Father Brin will be taking assembly next Tuesday when he has agreed to have his beard spray painted- an idea suggested at the Big Breakfast. He will be returning to the school hall on Thursday at 2.30pm when we will discover if we have raised enough money (for the Church Roof Fund) to order him to have his beard shaved off. Everyone is invited to the opening of the envelope which will reveal the amount Father Brin considers appropriate. The children will then return to their classrooms whilst their drawings, of what they guess Father Brin will look like without his beard, are judged. There will be normal dismissal at 3.15pm, after which everyone is invited back to the hall to (hopefully!) see the beard being shaved off. Many thanks to Cindy Anderson who has volunteered to do the deed. Please continue to send donations to the office as we’d all love to see the beard come off!
Music Tuition
It’s wonderful to see so many violins and cellos about the school now that tuition for these instruments, as well as keyboards, has become established. We look forward to hearing a performance soon.
Hockey League
The first round of the hockey league begins next Thursday 4.15pm at Penzance Astro. The team will receive further details.
